Snow-A-Plenty For An Off-Year

With the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in full swing in Austria at the moment, it's a good time to update our blog.  Cory of course did not qualify for the games so Cory decided to do very little training this year and spend more time just having fun on snow.  And Mother Nature cooperated with substantial and regular snowfalls with a base now at Cypress of over 400 cms.

With no intensive training this season, Cory has not skied as often as most years but he'll be attending the Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers Annual Festival next week at Sun Peaks for 5 days of training and skiing.

And a big smile to be back on skis - in this case powder skis not race skis - back in mid-December at Cypress, already plenty of snow.

By mid-February, 12 foot trees are nearly covered in snow and with no need to work on race skills, Cory is able to tackle the steeps.....

By early March, everything is white...

except the blue of the Pacific Ocean...

and the green Olympic rings at Cypress, home of Canada's first ever gold medal on home soil at the 2010 Olympic Games...

Meanwhile at the World Winter Games in Austria, the Super G race was completed yesterday and based on Cory's times versus Canadian competitors that are competing in Austria, he remains in the Top 5 in the world in Super G.  Slalom and Giant Slalom will be conducted later this week so we'll check those results and post that with an update from Sun Peaks.
